Wearing it
Can I actually sleep in it?
Most people need three or four nights to get used to it. What makes the biggest difference is starting loose: wear it at the loosest setting for the first few nights, then tighten a little at a time. If you can't sleep, take it off and try again the next night. Some people start by wearing it for an hour or two in the evening with their feet up.
I sleep on my side. Will it work?
Yes. It's adjustable at the forefoot, ankle and calf, so you can set it to a tension that's comfortable lying on your side or your back. If anything presses on your shin, loosen the calf strap a notch.
How tight should it be?
Snug enough to hold your foot near a neutral, ninety-degree angle, but never painful. A gentle stretch along the arch and calf is right. If your toes go numb or tingle, it's too tight — loosen the straps and readjust.
Can I walk in it?
It isn't designed for walking. Take it off before you get up, especially at night, to avoid slipping.
How do I know it's working?
Judge it by your first steps in the morning, not by how it feels at night. The splint only helps on the nights you wear it, so consistency matters more than anything else.
How long before I notice a difference?
It varies from person to person. Give it a few weeks of consistent nightly use. If your heel pain isn't improving after several weeks, or it's getting worse, see a doctor or podiatrist.
Fit
Which foot does it fit?
Either one. It's symmetrical and fully adjustable.
What size is it?
It's one size with three independently adjustable straps. If it doesn't fit you well, email us — returns are covered by our 30-day policy.
Do I need two?
Only if both feet hurt. Plenty of people start with one and add a second later.
Safety
Who should check with a doctor first?
If you have diabetes, circulation problems, nerve damage, a recent injury or surgery, are pregnant, or have foot pain that isn't improving, talk to your doctor before using a night splint. Stop using it if you notice numbness that doesn't go away when you loosen it, skin irritation, or increased pain.
Is this a medical treatment?
No. The Stepwell Night Splint is a positioning and support product. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
